Marty Ferrero is one of Caron Treatment Center’s Senior Directors overseeing Community and Volunteer Relations, as well the Berks and Lancaster Region Alumni and Family Coordinator. Marty has been in the field of addiction treatment since 1996, joining the Caron family in early 2010. His clinical experience and treatment expertise includes a variety of areas such as working with the older adult population, professionals and pilots; the integration of spirituality and evidenced-based behavioral health practices; mindfulness and recovery; and Motivational Interviewing with Twelve Step Facilitation. Marty presents nationally on a variety of topics, including Effective Treatment Strategies for Addicted Older Adults and Their Families; Integrating Spirituality into Treatment: Rounding Out The Evidence; Twelve Step Facilitation in Behavioral Health Treatment; and The History & Origins of A.A.: Twelve Defining Moments.
Marty has been in recovery since January of 1993. He is well-versed on the history of Alcoholics Anonymous, as well as the Back to Basics of Recovery movement. Prior to joining Caron Treatment Centers as clinical director of adult services, he served as a licensed alcohol and drug counselor at the Hazelden Foundation in Minnesota, Clinical Supervisor of the Men’s Primary and Extended-Care programs at Hazelden Springbrook in Oregon, and Clinical Director at the San Cristobal Academy in New Mexico.
Marty holds a Master of Arts in Addiction Counseling from the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies in Center City, Minnesota and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is also a licensed and internationally certified alcohol and drug counselor, a certified clinical supervisor through the Pennsylvania Board of Certification, and a certified multiple addictions counselor through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals. His dog Gracie, beloved by patients and staff, has been a certified therapy dog since 2012 through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
