Description

Nearly 90 million people in the United States struggle with alcohol use but are not physically dependent. Traditional treatment is designed for the severe alcohol user, leaving the majority of people experiencing problems from alcohol without appropriate services. With the fifth addition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders now viewing alcohol use disorders on a spectrum, behavioral healthcare providers need to have treatments that are appropriate for all levels of alcohol use. There is over 50 years of research that proves that the harm reduction strategy of alcohol moderation is an effective treatment option. This presentation will differentiate types of drinkers and their treatment needs, predict who is a candidate.

CE Outline:
Objective 1: Differentiate types of drinkers and their treatment needs.
Objective 2: Predict who is a candidate for alcohol moderation using the research backed Alcohol Moderation Assessment.
