The addiction treatment field has increasingly been in the news for issues related to ethical misconduct. While these news stories have primarily focused on the business side of our industry, dishonesty, fraud and deception have also affected clinical practice. This presentation will assist clinicians to ensure that they are always acting with benevolence for the well-being of their client or patient. A set of basic ethical standards will be presented, along with more specific criteria for clinicians working day-to-day in the field. Tools for resolving ethical dilemmas will be presented, with a focus on the development of personal and professional boundaries.
